Research and Development Technician

To align with our strategic objectives, we are seeking a skilled and motivated Research and Development Technician to join our Research and Development department. The successful candidate will provide support activities with the design, prototyping, testing and validation of our electronic hardware/software and mechanical systems for industrial fire alarm control and indicating equipment. The role requires hands-on experience with circuit board assembly and debugging of electronic hardware and software systems. As an integral part of our Research and Development operation, you will be a key team member working closely with development engineers to develop, test and validate our in house designed products to national and international standards, regulations and codes of practice (e.g. EN54 series standards). Typical Responsibilties

  • Building, testing and debugging of prototype designs (PCB’s and assemblies).
  • Supporting development staff in the design, build, refinement and testing of designs.
  • Troubleshooting and fault diagnosis of designs, PCB assemblies and prototypes.
  • Working with senior development staff to learn and adopt departmental processes.
  • Support in test and validation activities to verify compliance with safety and regulatory standards (e.g. EMC testing, material compliance (RoHS and REACH) and LVD).
  • Understanding industry standards, regulations and code of practice.
  • Understanding and supporting the Product Engineering Process.
  • Task management using DevOps.
  • Performing and documenting development activities (such as MTBF analysis, DFMA reviews, COO reviews and export control requirements).
  • Performing empirical testing and documentation to support.
  • Assisting in product audits to ensure ongoing compliance and conformity.
  • Technical documentation and report writing.
  • Assist in developing test procedures and assembly documentation.
