Humberside Police Clough Road Building

Humberside Police Clough Road Building

Humberside Police Clough Road Building

In 2007 Humberside Police Authority backed the decision to find a suitable site for a new custody facility for Hull. This has been developed within a wider estates strategy to combine other police facilities bringing better operational policing gains as well as providing a fit for purpose, efficient and effective estate.

The Clough Road Police Station occupies an 8 acre brownfield site formerly part of the wider Gas Work’s site.

The location of the new facility was key decisions, which was based on its central location within Hull, and also ease of road access across the city to and from the site.

The facility provides a base for over 750 police officers and staff, together with a custody suite of 40 cells.  This new facility will enable the co-location of policing in Hull, many of whom are currently based in accommodation designed and built in the 1960’s.

These old sites no longer meet the needs of modern policing, particularly around custody standards.  Humberside Police will also be moving out of a number of these sites and leased buildings to reduce costs.

The project brief was given by Jacobs with the builders being Bam Construction.

This type of building demanded a fire detection and alarm system that had to deliver a design element to achieve the special requirements of a multi-use building which also including a custody suite. Protec Fire Detection was chosen to supply this using the Algo Tec 6000PLUS sensors with voice enhanced sounders connected to a number of 6400 control panels. In the custody suite the use of Protec’s pro points gave an individual address and location of any incident in the precise cell location. Along with the pro points a number Cirrus Pro cloud chamber aspirating systems have also been installed. A further enhancement to the system was the use of Protec’s Smoke damper interfaces which are connected to our 6400 System fire alarm loop wiring, this provides the circuit integrity of a fire alarm system, and savings when integrating the smoke damper control system with the fire alarm system.
