Product Focus – The EvacPro

When it comes to high-rise building safety, a reliable evacuation system isn’t just important, it is essential!

With the introduction of BS 8629, the demand for purpose-built Evacuation Alert Control Indicating Equipment (EACIE) systems is on the rise. Buildings must be equipped with these systems to evacuate residents swiftly when a stay-put policy is no longer the safest option.

In critical moments, fire services need a quick, straightforward way to manage evacuations efficiently. That’s why we have developed the EvacPro. Designed for scalability and ease of use, the EvacPro provides a reliable, no-nonsense solution that enables emergency responders to act fast to keep people safe.

Simple Operation, Simple Evacuation

The EvacPro is designed with simplicity and efficiency in mind, providing fire services with an uncomplicated, floor-by-floor evacuation system. The EvacPro panel features intuitive toggle switches and zone status LEDs, ensuring ease of use in high-pressure situations. The EvacPro can be specialised to have up to three banks of 16 switches which equates to three separate stair cores all with one switch per level, per core making up to 48 switches in total.

EvacPro Switches

During development, ergonomics played a crucial role. The large robust toggle switches are carefully spaced, allowing fire officers to operate them without needing to remove their gloves, a small yet critical detail that enhances precision and control during evacuations.

No Display with No Limitations

From the outset, it’s clear that the EvacPro is designed for simplicity and compliance, featuring only toggle switches and a silence button which is a regulated design requirement set by BS 8629:2019+A1:2023.

However, for professionals responsible for the commissioning, servicing, and maintaining of the system, a dedicated programming and testing solution is essential. This is achieved through a laptop connection via the EvacPro’s communication port, granting full access to service functions through the EvacPro Virtual Panel.

The EvacPro Virtual Panel provides a comprehensive digital platform, allowing engineers complete control over commissioning and programming. Available through the Protec Support Portal, it enables full system configuration and apartment-by-apartment audibility tests, ensuring precise functionality, seamless maintenance, and full regulatory compliance.

A Scalable Evacuation

The EvacPro is the complete solution for an evacuation of high-rise accommodation on demand. Designed to adapt to different building heights and configurations, EvacPro offers three build options:
• EvacPro/16 for up to 16 floors
• EvacPro/32 for up to 32 floors
• EvacPro/48 for up to 48 floors
Each EvacPro comes complete with four digital addressable loops with each loop allowing for up to 200 addressable sounders (Subject to sounder type). This high address count combined with a 1 Amp loop load which ensures the EvacPro is more than capable of meeting a clients evacuation system requirements.

When greater scalability is needed, the EvacPro can be connected to an EvacPro/NET network unit which expands system capabilities by adding four-loop extensions per unit. With the latest regulatory update (BS 8629:2019+A1:2023), EvacPro now supports system networking, making it possible to create large-scale, complex evacuation systems for taller and more densely populated buildings without limitations.

Audible and Visual Evacuation

The Protec EvacPro benefits from using the Protec 6000PLUS protocol, which means it takes advantage of what the 6000PLUS protocol offers. This means that the full range of Protec sounders and Visual Alarm Devices (VADs) are compatible with an EvacPro system.

This ensures maximum flexibility when specifying alarm devices, with options including wall-mounted or ceiling-mounted sounders, available in red, white, or discreet (sensor style) finishes. With this versatility, there is always a suitable sounder or VAD for any installation environment, ensuring both compliance and optimal performance.

Commission Devices FAST

One popular feature at the time of commission is the FAST™ (Firmware Addressed Secure Technology), a time-saving solution from Protec. Commissioning can sometimes be a laborious exercise involving a box full of devices and a small screwdriver switching tiny switches, using address cards or specialist tools which is known as hard addressing.

Hard addressing isn’t the case with the Protec 6000PLUS devices. We use our FAST™ method, a software-based commissioning method whereby we allocate a unique address at the manufacturing stage. The address comes in the form of two identical barcodes on the bottom of each device.

Once on site, it’s just a matter of scanning the device barcode, leaving one on the device and adding the other to the commissioning manual and allocating the device at the panel, saving hours spent for hard addressing.

Instant System Status

With the rise of internet-connected systems in the life safety industry, real-time system status updates have become increasingly essential. The EvacPro is no exception. Equipped with an active communications port, it supports IP gateway connections, enabling remote monitoring of faults and activations. This feature is particularly valuable for sites where facilities management or a competent person is not always on-site. As long as both the user and the system have a secure internet connection, they can monitor system performance from anywhere.

Our Cloud-Based Remote Services include e-logbooks, client dashboards, and service schedules serve as invaluable tools for facilities managers, helping them efficiently document and manage system performance and compliance.
