Open Protocol

A protocol serves as the digital language which systems use to communicate between field devices and control panels. When selecting a fire alarm system, clients face a critical choice between Open and Closed Protocols, which impacts service and maintenance options.

Unlike the IT industry, where products from different brands seamlessly integrate, fire alarm systems demand consistency in the brand manufacturer across all field devices.

In fire alarm systems, Open Protocol denotes the level of accessibility. The system’s software and access codes are easily available, enabling any competent, qualified fire & security provider to service and maintain your system.

The current generation of Protec panels are fully Open Protocol ready for you to decide who will service and maintain them.

An Open Protocol Manufacturer

With decades of experience in the fire alarm industry, Protec is dedicated to working closely with clients to deliver bespoke, high-quality fire alarm systems tailored to their specific requirements. When you have a Protec Open Protocol fire alarm system, anyone can access it. We provide you with the default 6000PLUS software and default access codes so that you can control your fire alarm system as you please.

This gives you complete control over your fire alarm system and allows you to decide who will service it. If you have a competent in-house FM team who are certified and trained to maintain and manage your fire alarm system, then this could be the best option for you.

However, with an open level of access, you need to make sure that the right people are working on your fire alarm system. You are ultimately responsible for ensuring that your fire alarm system remains healthy, operational, and legal.

With an Open Protocol System it means:

  • Anyone has access to the software and codes.
  • Anyone can service and maintain your system.
  • Anyone can complete the cause and effects for fire alarm system.
  • The client ensures their system is up to date.
  • The client is responsible for the operation of their fire alarm system.
  • The client is responsible for the legal compliance of their fire alarm system.
